Upon Blazkowicz's return to Isenstadt, Stefan Kriege informs him that he has killed his brother, Anton, thinking he was the mole and betrayed both Blazkowicz and Caroline. During a struggle, Caroline appears to be killed by Hans Grosse, Deathshead's henchman. He confronts Zetta's replacement, Obergruppenführer Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse, who is eager for revenge after Blazkowicz destroyed his Übersoldat-program in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Blazkowicz helps the Kreisau Circle stage a rescue mission. Shortly after the move, Caroline Becker is captured and held in a nearby castle. The Black Market, the Kreisau Circle, and the Golden Dawn then move to a new location in downtown Isenstadt to escape retaliation for Zetta's death. Eventually, he manages to confront and kill General Zetta, who turns out to be a monster when viewed through the Veil. With it, their goal is to turn the tide in the war against the Allies. Through his missions he learns that the Nazis try to harness the power of the Black Sun dimension. which grants him temporal invulnerability, and the red crystal greatly enhances the damage caused by the weapons that he uses. As Blazkowicz completes more missions, he gains new weapons and new defensive and offensive powers for the Thule Medallion: the yellow crystal allows him to slow down time and dodge projectiles, the blue crystal deploys a shield around B.J. ![]() In the Veil the player is able to run faster, spot enemies in the dark and walk through doors which have the Black Sun symbol. With a crystal provided by Kovlov, Blazkowicz is able to enter the Veil, a barrier between Earth and a dimension known as the Black Sun. He also shows Blazkowicz how to use the Thule Medallion. Kovlov introduces Blazkowicz to the Golden Dawn, a group of scholars who specialize in the occult, founded and led by Dr. He also finds an exact copy of the medallion that he found on the Nazi warship, which Kovlov calls the Thule Medallion. ![]() Becker sends Blazkowicz on a mission into a dig site, where he frees a young Russian named Sergei Kovlov. (He pays for upgrades with gold earned from missions or found scattered throughout the game.) He also meets the leader of the Kreisau Circle, a former schoolteacher named Caroline Becker and her lieutenant Erik Engle. In Isenstadt, he meets the brothers Stefan and Anton Kriege, who run the Black Market where Blazkowicz can upgrade all of his weapons and powers. He then meets up with agents from the Kreisau Circle, a German resistance group dedicated to fighting the Nazis, and with them, makes it to Isenstadt. Shortly after, Blazkowicz is sent to Isenstadt, but upon arriving by train, his cover is already blown by an unknown informant. He also hands over the medallion to the OSA for further research. The Nazis have begun digging for crystals, led by a general named Viktor Zetta. During a meeting there, he learns that the medallion needs crystals called Nachtsonne, mined only in a city in Germany called Isenstadt, to make use of its full power. Hijacking a plane from the Tirpitz, he escapes and returns to the OSA headquarters. ![]() Discovered and captured, he unwittingly unleashes the power of the medallion, which kills all his foes for him. In an introduction sequence, special agent William "B.J." Blazkowicz steals a medallion from a general on the German battleship Tirpitz. ![]() Locations include the town's sewers, a tavern, a hospital, a farm, an underground mining facility, a church, the SS headquarters, a dig site and caverns, a cannery, a radio station, a paranormal base, a general's home, a castle, an airfield and a large zeppelin. As the game progresses, happenings in Isenstadt become stranger (military patrols are replaced by supernatural creatures, etc.). The story is set in the fictional town of Isenstadt during World War II, which the Nazis have enforced martial law in order to excavate rare Nachtsonne crystals necessary to access the "Black Sun" dimension.

![]() If you can look past these complaints, you’ll see that this is still one of the more valuable AA slogans in existence. Furthermore, it may insult some of the more religiously inclined AA members to hear their faith reduced to nothing but fear. To be fair, it does sound rather egotistical for anyone to compare their life of excessive partying to a netherworld of fire and brimstone. Some people replace the word “spirituality” with “AA.” Either way, those who dislike this slogan tend to focus more on the aspect of living in Hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there.” You’ve probably heard this one before: “Religion is for people who are afraid of Hell. Your religion-or even lack thereof-has no bearing on your ability to seek a spiritual remedy. And if you can’t accept that, then you’re precisely the type of person who might benefit from letting go every once in a while. But if you maintain an atheistic or agnostic point of view, simply remember that God doesn’t define this slogan. If you believe in God, then you shouldn’t struggle too hard with this slogan. We can maintain faith in the universe without defining our Higher Power as some extraterrestrial deity. We must remember, however, that faith is not exclusively religious. Those who dislike AA slogans such as this one often find the word “God” offensive. After that, it’s up to fate.įate, of course, represents God in this slogan. We do our part, and then we hope for the best. Perhaps we need to find a job or a place to live, but we cannot make these things happen by sheer force of will. But when used properly, this slogan reminds us that we cannot control everything. So in some cases, this slogan may not apply to us. If we find ourselves homeless or out of a job, we cannot simply “let go.” In such cases, we must take control of our lives. This is another one of the AA slogans targeted by Whitney as potentially useless for many addicts and alcoholics. Like feathers drifting on the breeze, some things are beyond our control. We must respect that process, or else we risk falling flat. This slogan reminds us that change is a process. Naturally, those who enter recovery often wish to turn their lives around as fast as possible. Perhaps we try to get a new job or enter a new relationship, despite the recommendation that we do not seek new commitments for our first year of recovery. We try to make amends long before reaching Step Nine. In this regard, it bears some similarities to “one day at a time.” When we first enter recovery, we sometimes try to get ahead of ourselves. It’s hard to simplify an already simple slogan, but the main point of this particular adage is that we must take things slowly. We see it on signs in meeting halls, and we hear people saying it without driving home any sort of a point.īut surely it means something, right? After all, who would repeat such a phrase if they truly believed it lacked substance? Brian Whitney, writing for The Fix, includes it in a list of the worst AA slogans for no other reason than its constant repetition. This might take point as one of the more contentious AA slogans in existence. It’s okay to stop and take a deep breath every once in a while. Lose sight of this, and you just might find yourself picking up a slip chip at the next meeting. Continue to focus on what’s right in front of you, and you can continue to live with a clear conscience. Every moment of every day, we must choose to do the next right thing. It may sound like they’re joking, but quite often they are not. While this most prominent of AA slogans tell us to take life one day at a time, we often hear AA members say that they must take life one hour or one minute at a time. Second, we must realize that life is little more than a series of moments. By focusing on the now, we forgo this trouble and allow ourselves to maintain our sobriety on a daily basis. We worry that we may never amount to anything, and we respond by throwing in the towel. When we worry so much about the future, we can often become despondent. ![]() It’s easy for us to wonder if we’ll ever achieve the same as them. We often meet people with decades of sobriety, and this feels imposing. ![]() But we can control our own actions right now. We cannot see the future, and we cannot control the universe. One of the most common AA slogans is “one day at a time.” This simple phrase carries two essential messages. We must take life one day at a time, one moment at a time. In 2008, the International Union of Crystallography developed a toolkit to facilitate the authoring of interactive figures in Jmol in their journals. Authoring of these interactive 3D figures remains time consuming, and only about a dozen articles have been so illustrated as of early 2010 (listed at Reichsman's site MoleculesInMotion.Com). Probably the first instance was in November, 2006, in ACS Chemical Biology, and subsequently in June, 2007, in Biochemical Journal with interactive 3D figures in Jmol implemented by Frieda Reichsman. This involves manual implementation of each figure, a laborious task requiring a person knowledgeable in Jmol programming. Platform availability Īpple released iTunes for Windows in 2003. Subsequent releases of iTunes often coincided with new hardware devices, and gradually included support for new features, including "smart playlists", the iTunes Store, and new audio formats. The first version of iTunes, promotionally dubbed "World’s Best and Easiest To Use Jukebox Software," was announced on January 9, 2001. The primary developers of the software moved to Apple as part of the acquisition, and simplified SoundJam's user interface, added the ability to burn CDs, and removed its recording feature and skin support. SoundJam MP, released by Casady & Greene in 1998, was renamed "iTunes" when Apple purchased it in 2000. (This change would not affect iTunes running on Windows or older macOS versions. Beginning with Macs running macOS Catalina, iTunes was replaced by separate apps, namely Music, Podcasts, and TV, with Finder taking over the device management capabilities. ![]() Though well received in its early years, iTunes received increasing criticism for a bloated user experience, which incorporated features beyond its original focus on music. Since the release of iOS 5 in 2011, these devices have become less dependent on iTunes, though it can still be used to back up their contents. Starting in 2005, Apple expanded on the core music features of iTunes with support for digital video, podcasts, e-books, and mobile apps purchased from the iOS App Store. With the 2003 addition of the iTunes Store for purchasing and downloading digital music, and a version of the program for Windows, it became a ubiquitous tool for managing music and configuring other features on Apple's line of iPod media players, which extended to the iPhone and iPad upon their introduction. Originally announced by CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2001, iTunes' original and main focus was music, with a library offering organization and storage of Mac users' music collections. ![]() Take this approach in every aspect of your life, from personal to professional workplaces. You’ve heard me say it many times before during these rants. “I’m concerned about Z and want to better understand your perspective on it.”.Keep these phrases handy for when you need to speak up: It’s okay to be uncomfortable with having a discussion in a certain time or place or to voice your concerns or let your opinions be heard. ![]() This leads to the perception that you’re untrustworthy, or maybe even a liar. Regardless of what your reason is for ignoring the issue, the reality is: others know things aren’t fine and dandy. Maybe it’s out of fear of what will happen when opinions come out. We’re hoping the problem will just disappear forever, or at the very least for right now. Other times we hide behind the words “it’s fine” when we want to put an end to a discussion over a certain issue. What I learned back then was to do A and B first…” Here’s a way to work around this in the future…” Next time you feel the urge to hide behind “it’s fine,” make it a guilt-free, teachable opportunity by using one of these phrases: In reality, we’re inadvertently teaching people that certain behaviors are acceptable or at least they might subconsciously think it. It seems polite to let it go, but it’s creating more obstacles than you might think. When we’re trying to lead a team or really wow a customer, this isn’t helpful. This is called the “spotlight effect.” The person who committed the error might feel even more embarrassed. While we might think we’re reassuring our colleagues, we’re actually calling attention to the mistake. However, when you think about it, it’s actually not fine to say… “it’s fine.” ‘It’s fine,’ is a default phrase we use when we don’t want to make the other person upset or we want to avoid addressing the real issue. We’ve said “it’s fine” when really… things weren’t fine. |
